We look for excellent law graduates with relevant experience; an outgoing character and the commitment to becoming an active team member.
We usually select our trainees from our paralegals or through our university intern programme. Therefore, if you would like to join us as a trainee solicitor and develop your legal career with us, you are encouraged to apply for the paralegal development track or university intern programme.
To enable you to decide which area of law you are most interested in, you will spend time in different practice areas during the two-year training period, where you will gain hands-on experience with us and our associate firm Boase, Cohen & Collins.
We offer an extensive training programme where you will be involved in all our key practice areas. You will gain and develop legal knowledge, expertise, experience and abilities through exposure to wide-ranging legal transactions and research.
From the moment you join us, you will be supervised by one of our partners who will review your progress and provide you with regular informal feedback. You are also encouraged to share your thoughts and suggestions to further enhance your knowledge and experience.

Calvin Ho – Solicitor | Hong Kong | Company Commercial and Corporate Finance
“I began my training contract with Charltons after previously working as a paralegal with the firm. The best part about working as a trainee in Charltons is being able to learn from some of the most talented lawyers around. The firm adopts an open door policy and lawyers are always very approachable and willing to give guidance when required. The lawyers here are down-to-earth, non-hierarchical and extremely helpful. This was important for me and for my training because it helped enhance my understanding of legal and my grasp of the broader “picture” which usually only comes from years of experience.
What I also really like about working with Charltons is the international flavour of the majority of work that I was involved with. Throughout my training contract I have worked on projects in multiple jurisdictions such as Tajikistan, Iran, Peru, South Africa, Philippines, South Korea, Australia, Canada, United Kingdom and the PRC, and the exposure is truly invaluable.
Whilst work can be challenging, it is the sense of achievement from being involved in some of the most high profile matters around that makes the training experience with Charltons priceless.”
